Research Methodology Media Content Analysis and Hierarchy Discussion Anil Kumar

Dear Students,

I taught you 'Content Analysis' in Research Methodology and teaching ‘Social Stratification & Hierarchy’ in Essentials of Sociology.

I taught you that in content analysis we are analyzing the published, printed and recorded contents for our research. But every time this method is not working.

As I taught you in class that many times content is not available because that is not recorded at all.

I gave you example that those who are deprived are further deprived by those who are in government, academics, including bureaucracy and judiciary. I gave you example that voice of Adivasi’s and Dalit’s are totally absent.

Hope you can remember that in class I gave example of ‘Damini Rape Case in Delhi’, and at time each and every media reported and focused on that. Sometimes it was looks like that, that was first rape case in India and every Indian are against rape. But what was the reality?
Reality was that, that case was highlighted because victims come from upper strata of society. Before and after that many rape cases happen and that was not matter for government, academician, media including bureaucracy and judiciary.

In Damini Rap Case everyone was active, but why not for others who are coming from lower strata in society?

The answer is that Indian society is stratified. Indian society is much more hierarchical.
Each and every society in this world is stratified and hierarchical. But there is difference. Indian society is stratified and hierarchical on the basis of your birth itself. In sociology this is called “Ascribed Status” where your status is defined by your birth,  family, caste, clan, community, religion, region, etc for which you are nether responsible  not in your control.

You can understand this by reading this post from this blog which is not reported widely and Delhi Police not gave permission even register their anger and demand for justice at India Gate.

Today on April 24, 2014 they were going for protest march and demand for justice at India Gate but they were forced to change their venue to Jantar Mantar, Delhi.
